“Turn to me and be gracious to me, as is your custom towards those who love your name.”
Psalms 119:132
What does it mean to love a ‘NAME’? Does it mean to take pride in a brand? Or does it mean to have a belonging to the name (like being part of sports team)? Or is it appreciation of the beauty of the name? And what could it mean in this context - of love towards the name of the Lord?
When we call on the name of the Lord we are calling the living person of Jesus. He is not an organisation, or a team or a historical figure, But he is the ONLY God who is living! Having affection to the name Jesus means to LOVE the person himself!
Usually when you are in love with someone their name is always on our tongue, because you would have a thousand things to say about them. You constantly imagine situations where you are with them, you continually think about what they have spoken to you.
The invitation we receive here from this word of God is to Love the Lord Jesus with everything we have! This is what it means to love his name.
This verse says that it’s God’s custom to be merciful and gracious to the ones that give reverence and love him. It’s God’s character to be Love! He simply cannot help but be himself as the Father God to bless his children, and all we have to do is to love him with all our heart, soul and body. Call on the name of the Lord from your heart, remind yourself constantly what He has done for you, recall the words he has spoken, be continually in his presence!
